Skoda, Volkswagen plan hybrid launch in India by 2028
Skoda and Volkswagen are planning to launch strong-hybrid midsize SUVs and sedans in India by 2028.
These new cars will be built on the locally-developed IMP21 platform, designed to handle petrol, hybrid, and even electric powertrains.
The move comes as stricter emission rules kick in and more people look for fuel-efficient options.
What is the IMP21 platform?
The IMP21 is all about making cars more affordable for India—thanks to local production—and meeting safety and emission standards.
It gives them the flexibility to roll out hybrids now and EVs down the line as policies change.
Competing with Hyundai, Kia, and Honda
Skoda-Volkswagen's upcoming hybrids will go head-to-head with popular models like the upcoming Hyundai Creta Hybrid, Kia Seltos Hybrid, Renault Duster Hybrid, Nissan's midsize SUVs, plus Honda City e:HEV among sedans.
Right now, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder lead this space—so expect more choices soon if you're eyeing a greener drive.
