Tesla ranks last for used-car reliability, says Consumer Reports

Auto

Thinking about a used Tesla?
Consumer Reports just ranked Tesla dead last out of 26 brands for long-term reliability in cars aged five to 10 years.
Tesla scored only 31—lower than Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler—mostly due to quality issues during the early Model 3 days when some cars were assembled in tents.

Toyota and Lexus are way more dependable

If you want a car that lasts, Toyota and Lexus are at the top with scores of 73 and 77.
According to Consumer Reports, their "conservative redesigns" and "incrementally improving their entire product line" keep things reliable year after year.
For new cars, Tesla does better (ninth place), but owners still report issues with reliability, even on the latest models.

What this means if you're shopping used

Bottom line: Older Teslas might not hold up as well as you'd hope. If reliability matters most, stick with brands like Toyota or Lexus.
If your heart's set on a Tesla, go for newer models—and always check reviews for that specific year before buying.
