Tesla recalls nearly 3m cars in China over manual releases
Auto
Tesla is recalling almost 3 million cars in China because their emergency door handles are too hard to find during a crisis.
These manual releases are tucked away behind panels, which can make escaping tough if there's a fire or accident.
The recall is part of a bigger safety push involving 11 carmakers in China.
Automakers add labels ahead China ban
Starting in 2027, China will ban hidden electronic door handles that aren't easy to spot or use.
To get ahead of the rule, Tesla and brands like Xiaomi, Xpeng, Zeekr, and Lynk & Co will add warning labels and update software so people can identify the emergency door releases.
The move comes as the US is also rethinking how safe these high-tech handles really are.
