Dow Jones hits record high as government shutdown fears ease
The Dow Jones gained nearly 600 points on Tuesday, ending at a record high. Over the past three sessions, the index has gained more than 1,000 points.
Investors are feeling upbeat because it looks like the longest US government shutdown might finally end soon.
The S&P 500 also climbed, while the Nasdaq slipped a bit thanks to NVIDIA's shares dropping after Softbank sold its stake to invest in OpenAI.
S&P 500 could reach 7,000 by mid-December
The Senate has already passed a bill to reopen the government, and President Trump is on board—now it's up to the House to review it.
Historically, markets tend to bounce back after shutdowns; experts even say the S&P 500 could reach 7,000 by mid-December.
Plus, talk of an economic slowdown is at its lowest since 2007, so investors are feeling more optimistic than they have in years.
