Google changes ad game to dodge EU breakup threat

Business

Google is tweaking its ad services after getting hit with a €2.95 billion fine from the European Commission for favoring its own products.
To avoid being split up in Europe, Google will now let publishers set different minimum prices in Ad Manager and is making other adjustments.
Even though Google plans to appeal, it says these updates should ease the EU's concerns without a disruptive break-up that would harm the thousands of European publishers and advertisers who use Google tools to grow their business.

What else is happening?

A Google spokesperson shared that their proposal addresses the Commission's concerns while preserving users' experience.
The EU will review these changes soon.
Meanwhile, Google's also facing heat in the US courts and, on top of that, the EU just launched a new investigation into how Google ranks news outlets in search results.
So yeah— Google's got a lot on its plate right now as it tries to keep regulators happy on both sides of the Atlantic.
