Sitharaman urges private sector to tap ₹1 lakh crore R&D fund

Business

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is encouraging private companies to make the most of a massive new ₹1 lakh crore R&D fund, recently launched by PM Modi.
The goal? To boost innovation in areas like manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, and AI.
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation will help connect universities, industry, and government so India can step up its science and tech game.

Semiconductor plant in Assam

While visiting Tata Electronics' new semiconductor plant in Assam—a ₹27,000 crore project set to churn out 48 million chips a day—Sitharaman called this "Assam is witnessing a golden moment of growth" for the state.
She encouraged young people and entrepreneurs to grab the new jobs and business opportunities these high-tech industries are bringing in.
