YES Bank appoints SBI veteran as new MD, CEO
YES Bank has picked Vinay Muralidhar Tonse as its next managing director and CEO.
He steps in as MD and CEO-designate from March 12, officially taking over on April 6 for a three-year term (pending shareholder nod).
This move comes after RBI's approval and will see Prashant Kumar step down as MD and CEO when his extended term ends on April 5, 2026.
Tonse's appointment aims to inject fresh momentum into YES Bank
Tonse's appointment is all about giving YES Bank fresh momentum. With deep experience in retail banking, he's expected to help the bank grow and adapt to new challenges.
Markets reacted to the announcements: shares initially rose after RBI approval, while they were marginally lower on March 6.
Tonse's journey at SBI
Tonse studied commerce at St. Joseph's College and Bangalore University before joining SBI way back in 1988.
Over nearly four decades, he climbed the ranks, serving as MD (Retail Business and Operations), leading SBI Mutual Fund, and acting as chief general manager in Chennai.
He brings a strong track record of handling big responsibilities.
Transition plan includes Kumar's insights and shareholder preferences
The decision factored in input from outgoing chief Prashant Kumar and with consideration of shareholder preferences.
The goal: make leadership change smooth and keep YES Bank moving forward without missing a beat.
