Maharashtra teachers help students cheat using ChatGPT; 81 suspended

In a major crackdown on examination malpractice, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has suspended 81 teachers in Beed district for helping students cheat. The board found that these teachers helped students cheat in Class 10 and Class 12 board exams by using ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence tool. The largest number of suspensions was reported from the Chausla exam center in Beed district.

The board has launched a detailed investigation into the incident and is looking into security protocols at examination centers. "This constitutes a significant misuse of technology and warrants decisive action to protect the integrity of board exams," officials said. The MSBSHSE has also warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found violating examination rules in the future.

The Class 12 (HSC) theory exams started on February 10, 2026, and will end on March 11, 2026. Meanwhile, the Class 10 (SSC) theory exams began on February 20, 2026, and will conclude on March 18, 2026. Last month, a racket that used ChatGPT to enable students to cheat in the Class XII Board exam was busted in the former Maoist hotbed of Maharashtra, Gadchiroli.
