Fusion fashion has been a thing for ages. Several designers try to create an eclectic mix of Indian and western. But only a select few designers are successfully able to blend the modern with the traditional and create something unique, and Anamika Khanna is one of those few. Born on July 19, 1971, in Jodhpur, Khanna began her career in designing in 1998. Although she had no formal training in designing, her initial designs struck a chord with those who were in search of a non-traditional aesthetic. As she made strides in the Indian fashion industry, Khanna honed her skills by attending workshops. Her ambition to reach clientele beyond India was clear when she started her own international label ‘Ana-Mika’ in 2004. In 2006, she became the first Indian woman to showcase her collection in the Paris Fashion Week. Some of her creations like the dhoti pants became a symbol of modern Indian fashion.
