What's the story

It's raining new movie releases in India. Some of the most highly anticipated flicks across languages and regions have finally hit the theaters and fans are flocking to the screens like never before. On that note, let's take a look at how are the recently released movies: Ponniyin Selvan I, Kantara, GodFather, and Doctor G are performing at the box office.

'Doctor G'

Doctor G, led by Ayushmann Khurrana is performing better than the actor's last release, Anek. According to early trade reports, Doctor G's opening day box office collection is estimated to be between Rs. 3.00cr and Rs. 3.50cr. Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, the medical campus drama also features Rakul Preet Singh as the leading lady, while Shefali Shah plays an important role.

'Ponniyin Selvan I'

Tamil magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan I, directed by Mani Ratnam is roaring past Rs. 450cr, surpassing Kamal Haasan's Vikram and becoming the highest Tamil grosser. Released on September 30, the multi-starrer has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi, "Jayam" Ravi, and "Chiyaan" Vikram in the lead roles. The film is an onscreen adaptation of author Kalki's popular Tamil novel of the same name.

'GodFather'

Megastar Chiranjeevi's action-drama GodFather hit the theaters on October 5. Also starring Salman Khan in a cameo role and Nayanthara in a pivotal role, the film has grossed Rs. 109.96cr so far at its worldwide box office window. Puri Jagannadh and Satya Dev played supporting roles. Directed by Mohan Raman, GodFather is the Telugu remake of the Malayalam movie Lucifer starring Mohanlal.

'Kantara'

The Kannada movie Kantara has been directed by Rishab Shetty, who also played the lead role in the movie. Kantara's Kannada version has managed to collect Rs. 60cr in Karnataka. Its Hindi dubbed version was released on Friday, which opened to a good Rs. 1.20cr to Rs. 1.50cr, which is higher than the opening day collections of GodFather and R Madhavan's Rocketry's Hindi versions.
