Box office: Leonardo DiCaprio's 'One Battle After Another' tops charts
Leonardo DiCaprio's new thriller, One Battle After Another, just grabbed the number one spot at the box office with an $8.8 million opening on Friday, September 27.
The film adapts Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel Vineland and is aiming for $25 million by the weekend's end.
Before its release, DiCaprio expressed his hope that people would go out to the theater and experience it the way it's meant to be seen.
'Gabby's Dollhouse' sequel, 'The Strangers' follow in DiCaprio's wake
Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie—based on the Netflix hit and featuring Laila Lockhart Kraner, Gloria Estefan, and Kristen Wiig—landed in second place with $4.36 million and could reach $13.6 million this weekend.
Horror sequel The Strangers: Chapter 2 opened in third with $2.2 million.
Rounding out the top five are The Conjuring: Last Rites ($1.95 million) and anime favorite Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle ($1.81 million), which continues its animated adventure for fans.
