Censorship row over 'Janaki' in film title
The Malayalam film Janaki V/S State of Kerala, starring Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran, was set to hit theaters on June 27 but has been delayed.
The CBFC stepped in because the main character—an assault survivor—is named Janaki, a name they say is sacred due to its link with Goddess Sita.
TL;DR
FEFKA called it an 'unjust restriction'
Directed by Pravin Narayanan, the film follows Janaki as she stands up to the state after being assaulted.
The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) isn't happy with the CBFC's decision—general secretary B Unnikrishnan called it an "unjust restriction" and said they're ready to fight for creative freedom.
This debate is sparking bigger questions about censorship and artistic rights in Indian cinema.
