Chennai: Kamal Haasan undergoes leg surgery

Actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Monday underwent leg surgery at a Chennai hospital and is doing well, his daughters Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan said in a statement on Tuesday. The chief of the political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, had on Sunday said that he would be undergoing a follow-up surgery on his leg. The surgery was performed at Sri Ramchandra Hospital in Chennai.

'The surgery was a success,' informed Shruti and Akshara

Shruti and Akshara took to Twitter on Tuesday to update his followers on the veteran actor's health following the surgery. The statement read, "We would like to begin by thanking you for your overwhelming support, prayers, and genuine concern regarding our father's recent medical procedure. We are happy to inform all of you that the surgery was a success!"

He is working toward speedy recovery: Shruti and Akshara

Shruti and Akshara said that the doctors, attendees, and the hospital management are taking good care of their father. "He is in good spirits and working toward a speedy recovery. He will return home in four to five days. After a few days of rest and recuperating from the surgery, he shall be ready to interact with people as always," they added.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Haasan had released a documentary, Kaalathai Vendravanon, about All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) founder and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MG Ramchandran's political legacy on the occasion of the latter's 104th birth anniversary at MGR's Ramapuram House in Chennai. Recollecting several encounters with the legendary actor, Haasan said that he shared MGR's dreams and goals.

Last month, Haasan said that he was disappointed by Rajnikanth's move to not enter electoral politics after the latter underwent surgery in Hyderabad. Haasan said, "Like his fans, I too have been disappointed but his health is important to me."
