Deepika Padukone's 'The Intern' to be helmed by Amit Sharma
Deepika Padukone, who is working on multiple projects at the moment, will start filming another of her ambitious film The Intern in November. The film is a remake of the 2015 Hollywood hit The Intern starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. Now, reports suggest that Badhai Ho's director Amit Sharma has been roped in to helm the movie, which is also co-produced by Padukone.
'The team unanimously agreed that Sharma was the best choice'
A source close to the development revealed to Pinkvilla, "The team of The Intern unanimously felt that Amit is the best choice for the film and the director too is in sync with the vision to bring the classic to India." The source said Sharma has already prepared a draft and will work on it after his other project Maidaan is completed.
Rishi Kapoor was to essay De Niro's role
The original Nancy Meyers film told the story of a 70-year-old who joins a digital workspace as an intern. De Niro's portrayal of a man starting something new at an old age was widely appreciated. Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor was signed up for the role but with his unfortunate death, the film was put on hold till a replacement could be found.
Sharma is working on Ajay Devgn's 'Maidaan'
Sharma, who won a lot of appreciation for the 2019 sleeper hit Badhai Ho, is now busy with the period sports-drama Maidaan. The film stars Ajay Devgn and is being produced by Boney Kapoor. Based on the golden era of Indian football, the film will release in October and will clash with SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (RRR).
'Pathan,' Prabhas's sci-fi film, and more: Padukone's a busy bee
The actress is currently shooting for Yash Raj Films' Pathan, along with Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham. She is also a part of the much-anticipated film, directed by Shakun Batra. It also features Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Pandey. Additionally, she will be seen in Nag Ashwin's sci-fi film along with Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan. She has reportedly allotted 75 days for the shoot.
