What's the story

Last year in November, we had reported about a possible collaboration between comedy ace Kapil Sharma and acclaimed director Nandita Das. On Thursday, Das confirmed that they indeed are teaming up for a film. Sharma will be shown in a "never seen before avatar of a food delivery rider. Kapil will be joined by Shahana Goswami as the female lead. Filming soon!" Das tweeted.

Details

The film will be backed by Applause Entertainment

Das will co-produce the film via Nandita Das Initiatives along with Sameer Nair's Applause Entertainment. The shooting schedule will begin later this month in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. "I am very excited about this project, not because I am doing a film, but because I am doing Nandita Das' film, whom I have seen both as an actor and a director," Sharma said of their collaboration.

Her work is very different from mine: Sharma

"She (Das) has a very distinct and deep way of looking at things and a keen eye for detailing. So my job as an actor is to just do what she tells me," Sharma said further. "Her work is very different from mine, and I am happy that the audience will get to see a new side of me," he added.

Here's why Das chose Sharma for main role

Meanwhile, Das said, "The film attempts to make visible what's hidden in plain sight. And for this, the cast and crew has serendipitously come together. One day, Kapil Sharma popped up on my screen! (sic)" "I hadn't seen his show, but I could see him wholly representing the 'common man', despite not being one anymore! I am certain he will surprise everyone."

Observation

Film might not be comedy

As we had reported earlier, and as per what Das and Sharma said in their official statements, the film is not likely a comedy. And, that's what makes this project special for Sharma's fans. His serious side has never been portrayed on the screen, except probably in his Netflix stand-up special I'm Not Done Yet, in which he narrated about his journey so far.
