Bollywood actor Mannara Chopra, who is Priyanka Chopra Jonas's cousin, will be making her Tamil cinema debut as a female lead in the upcoming film Highlights. The movie is a fantasy thriller that aims to showcase the history and culture of the Badaga community from The Nilgiris. Although she had a cameo in a song for Kaaval (2015), this will be her first full-fledged role in Tamil cinema.

The film, which stars Vijay Sathya in the lead role, will have a historical connection with a flashback portion set in pre-independence India. Sathya, who is of Badaga descent, expressed his desire to make a film that highlights the heritage of his community. He told The Times of India, "I'm a Badaga and wanted to make a film that will highlight the heritage of this community of people who are indigenous to The Nilgiris."

Reason behind choosing Chopra for the role
The production team of Highlights plans to commence shooting by the end of this month or the first week of November in Ooty. Sathya revealed that they chose Chopra for the female lead's role because they wanted an actor who is well-known all over India. "Since we are planning to make this a pan-Indian project, we needed an actor who will be recognized across India," he said.

Look test in the Badaga costume
Sathya further added that Chopra's look in a Badaga costume during a look test also played a crucial role in their casting decision. "She also looked convincing when we did a look test with her in the Badaga costume," he said. Chopra is known for Bigg Boss 17, Jakkanna, and Laughter Chefs - Unlimited Entertainment, among others.
