'Mrs Deshpande' skips gore, dives into emotions—Madhuri Dixit leads the way
Madhuri Dixit stars as a convicted serial killer in Mrs Deshpande, but don't expect blood and guts.
She shared, "The responsibility is always there. But we are actors, we play different kind of roles and we cannot be responsible for everything."
Director Nagesh Kukunoor made it clear: the show focuses on emotional depth, not violence.
What's the story?
Mrs Deshpande is a Hindi adaptation of the French series La Mante. The plot follows police teaming up with an imprisoned Mrs Deshpande to catch a copycat killer—on her condition that she works with her estranged detective son.
Madhuri ditches her usual glam look for something more unsettling, alongside Priyanshu Chatterjee and Siddharth Chandekar.
The six-episode series is scheduled to release on JioHotstar on December 19, 2024.
A fresh take for Indian screens
Kukunoor said they wanted drama and relationships to take center stage instead of gore.
He explained they built a world where Madhuri isn't the star you know—she's just another actor lost in a tense story about family and crime.
