Netflix renews Regal drama 'Bridgerton' for Seasons 3 and 4

While we await the release of the second season of Bridgerton, news suggests that Netflix has already renewed the show for two more seasons. The announcement comes just weeks after Season 2 went into production. The first edition of this extremely popular period romantic-drama started streaming last December. The show from Grey's Anatomy fame Shonda Rhimes's stable has reportedly mightily impressed the streaming giant.

Statement
'Bridgerton' swept us off our feet: Netflix VP global TV

The VP global TV at Netflix, Bela Bajaria, said in a statement that the streaming service believes that people will "continue to swoon for the show." The statement read, "Bridgerton swept us off our feet. The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future. (sic)"

Quote
Rhimes, one of the executive producers, feels 'incredibly grateful'

Rhimes seemed ecstatic about Netflix's decision to pick up the show for two more seasons. She said, "This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work, and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience. (sic)"

Show
'Bridgerton' is the story of love from aristocratic London

The show, which also has Betsy Beers and Chris Van Dusen as executive producers, along with Rhimes, is based on Julia Quinn's book series by the same name. The first season followed the love story between Simon Basset (Rege-Jean Page) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and was widely loved for their chemistry. Fans were highly disappointed after Page announced his departure from the show.

Information
'Bridgerton's Simon Basset is quitting over 'creative differences'

Page, who had initially signed a one year contract to play the male lead, left the show reportedly due to "creative differences." The second season will follow the story of The Viscount Who Loved Me, which details Daphne's older brother Anthony's search for love. The eight-episode first season was met with positive reviews. The viewership of the show reached 82 million households.
