'Varanasi' trailer may debut with 'Avatar: Fire and Ash'
What's the story
The upcoming release of Avatar: Fire and Ash is generating immense global excitement, and industry insiders suggest that several major film trailers will be screened alongside it. The introduction video for Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu and directed by SS Rajamouli, is reportedly set to premiere with the much-awaited Hollywood sequel, too. However, this news remains unconfirmed.
Trailer lineup
'The Odyssey,' 'Avengers: Doomsday,' and Spielberg's UFO film also expected
In addition to Varanasi, the first glimpses of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday, and Steven Spielberg's upcoming UFO film are also likely to be screened with Avatar: Fire and Ash. This will be the third installment in James Cameron's sci-fi franchise after Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). It will release on December 19, 2025.
Title controversy
'Varanasi' faces title dispute, likely to be renamed
Meanwhile, Varanasi is also facing a title dispute. Producer Subba Reddy has reportedly filed a complaint claiming he registered the title two years ago. This has led to intervention from the Telugu Film Chamber. Initial reports suggested Rajamouli's team might negotiate for full rights but now it seems they will rename the Telugu version to "Rajamouli's Varanasi" instead. The film also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles.
