What's the story

Actor Rani Mukerji has exited the upcoming film Oh My Goddess due to "creative differences" with director Amit Rai, reported Bollywood Hungama. The film, which was set to feature Akshay Kumar in an extended cameo, is now on hold as the makers are looking to recast the role with another senior female actor. Here's what happened.

Creative differences

Clash of visions led to the fallout: Source

Sources told Bollywood Hungama that Mukerji and Rai had different visions for the film. "She had a certain way of looking at the script, including post-production, and expected Amit to follow her experience. Amit, on the other hand, had a strong counter perspective on the presentation of the film." "The duo eventually could not gel well, leading to a fall-out of sorts."

Mediation attempt

Kumar tried to mediate between the two

Kumar reportedly tried to mediate between Mukerji and Rai, but ultimately decided it was best not to force their collaboration. "Rani, too, had her reservations, and the two senior actors, like true professionals, decided to amicably part ways on Oh My Goddess." "Rani loved the script but, with a heavy heart, chose to step away. The team is now looking to recast the role with another senior actress."

Production status

Pre-production was on track for the film

Bollywood Hungama confirmed that the pre-production of Oh My Goddess was progressing well. The makers were reportedly planning to start filming in April with Mukerji. "They are not naive enough to invest money in pre-production without any paperwork," a source told the portal. To recall, Rai previously directed OMG 2 (2023), starring Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam Dhar. The upcoming installment, Oh My Goddess, is a co-production between Kumar and Viacom18
