Ankit Sharma: News
India’s religious and cultural diversity is often celebrated. But sometimes things can go terribly wrong. The communal riots that rocked North East Delhi in 2020 are one such example. Tensions between Hindus and Muslims reached a point of no return and resulted in the death of an Intelligence Bureau staff who tried to pacify both groups. Born in 1990, Ankit Sharma lived in Khajuri Khas in North East Delhi. Son of Ravinder Sharma and Sudha Sharma, Ankit joined the Intelligence Bureau in 2017 as a Security Assistant. Sharma’s death attracted national attention for the gruesome way he was killed. His body was found in a drain near Chand Bagh culvert. The post-mortem report revealed that his body sustained 51 injuries. Several witnesses have said that Ankit was trying to pacify both sides of people in front of former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain’s house. That is when some rioters carrying rods, stones, knife etc. came from the side of Chand Bagh Pulia and dragged Ankit toward the area. Hussain and nine others were arrested in connection with the murder.
