Assam CM forms SIT to probe Zubeen Garg's death

India

Assam's Chief Minister has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to dig deeper into the passing of beloved singer Zubeen Garg.
The move comes after a meeting with top police officials, where the CM promised "no one will be spared" in finding out what really happened.
Garg died in Singapore on September 19, 2025, after suffering a seizure while swimming, which led to drowning.

Meanwhile, the latest on the case

At first, people thought it was a scuba diving accident, but postmortem reports confirmed it was drowning. A second postmortem—this time with AIIMS doctors—was done in Guwahati for extra clarity.
Meanwhile, festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta has been banned from running events or getting government sponsorship because of multiple FIRs against him for alleged conspiracy and negligence.
The SIT now has full authority to investigate and is sending evidence to Delhi for further testing.
Zubeen's loss is being felt deeply by fans and the Assamese music scene everywhere.
