Delhi students ask courts to shift outdoor sports away from peak pollution months

India

Worried about Delhi's severe air pollution, a group of students—including 15-year-old Abhiveer Gulati—has asked the High Court to reschedule outdoor sports events.
These activities usually happen between November and January, when the city's air is at its worst and kids' health is at risk.

Health concerns push for change

After Gulati developed acute bronchitis following cricket practice, he and other students highlighted how dangerous it can be to play outside during this season.
The High Court has now asked the Delhi government what steps it's taking to protect students, while the Supreme Court suggested moving sports events to months with cleaner air.
Parents are also worried their kids are stuck indoors more often, and officials have postponed competitions until conditions improve.
