  • In a distressing incident, a 39-year-old man, an alumnus of IIT and IIM, allegedly committed suicide after jumping from his house in Noida. His family has said his sour relationship with his wife forced him to take the extreme step.

    A case has been registered against the deceased's wife and in-laws for harassing him, and an investigation is underway.

  • The incident happened on Monday. As per HT, the family of the man, who completed his education from IIT-Kanpur and IIT-Ahmedabad, got a call from security guard of his society around 10 am.

    The guard informed them that he had "burnt down his house" and was rushed to a hospital.

    On reaching, the family learned he jumped from the balcony of his 10th-floor house.

  • His father, a resident of Delhi, filed the police complaint against his daughter-in-law, her parents, and two brothers.

    The couple got married in 2014. At the time, she was working at PSU in Haridwar and the deceased in Gurugram.

    Later, they shifted to Noida but their marital life took a hit. The father revealed his son lost his job, and his venture flopped too.

  • "He was being constantly pressured by her family and one day, he told me that his father-in-law and two brothers-in-law had assaulted him and threatened to harm him. He had moved to the Sector-128 house after he filed for separation," the grieving father said.

  • Further, the father revealed his daughter-in-law had filed a case against his son, almost two years ago. She accused him of harassment.

    In exchange for withdrawing the case, the wife demanded Rs. 50 lakh and a flat, he claimed.

    "We are convinced that it was the physical and mental harassment that led my son to take this step," the father told HT.

  • On the basis of the father's allegations, police registered a case under IPC Section 306 (abetment of suicide). No note was found.

    The deceased's family informed cops his wife worked in Noida but couldn't give the exact address.

    "We are working on this. A probe in the matter is underway. Due legal action will be taken soon," said SHO Expressway police station, Bhuvnesh Kumar.
