PM Modi to hoist flag at Ayodhya's Ram temple on October 31
India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hoist a saffron flag at the Ram temple in Ayodhya today. This ceremony, called 'Dhwajarohan,' embodies the ideals of Ram Rajya.
The triangular flag, featuring a Sun and 'Om,' stands for dignity and unity, according to the PMO.
What's special about the flag?
The flag measures 22 by 11 feet and will fly atop a 161-foot spire on a rotating mast. Made from parachute fabric and silk, it can handle winds up to 60km/h.
Its weight was trimmed from 11kg to just 4kg after military advice for easier handling.
The flag will also get special Vedic rituals with divine herbs, and will be replaced twice a year during Navratri as part of tradition.
