Maharashtra Dalit leader stabbed to death; angry locals lynch attacker

Uttam Mohite, the president of the Maharashtra Dalit Mahasangh, was fatally stabbed in Sangli while celebrating his birthday, per an India Today report. Preliminary reports indicate that Mohite was stabbed in the stomach, resulting in his immediate death. Following the attack, the accused, identified as Shahrukh Shaikh, alias Sherya, was allegedly lynched by a mob at the spot.

Investigation launched into double murder
The Vishrambaug and Sangli police stations are now investigating the double murder. Autopsies of both Mohite and Shaikh are being conducted. Mohite was a prominent figure of the Dalit Mahasangh in Sangli and was actively involved in social work. His death sparked unrest, prompting authorities to deploy additional police forces to maintain order in the city.
