DoT enforces SIM limits from Aug 24, regional caps apply
Technology
Starting August 24, the DoT is enforcing the existing cap on how many SIM cards you can own: nine per person across most of India, but only six if you are in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, or the Northeast.
If you try to get more than your limit, telecom companies will identify excess connections and tell such customers that a new connection cannot be issued.
Operators use dot photos Aug 23
From August 23, operators will use your photo (shared by the DoT) to check daily if anyone is going over their SIM limit.
At first, extra connections will be suspended after activation; by November 30, real-time checks will stop excess SIMs before they are even issued.
You will also need to declare all your existing numbers when applying for a new one, so no sneaky extras!
