EU plans big GDPR and privacy rule changes
The European Commission just proposed major updates to the EU's data privacy rules (GDPR and ePrivacy Directive).
The new plan wants to make cookie consent way less annoying—think fewer pop-ups, with more control right in your browser or app settings.
Other changes include raising the bar for when companies must report data breaches.
Why should you care?
If these changes go through, they could seriously shift how your personal data is handled across Europe.
On one hand, it might get easier to use websites and apps without endless consent screens.
But digital rights groups warn that letting companies use "legitimate interest" as a reason to train AI on your data—without always asking first—could weaken privacy protections.
Basically: more convenience, but possibly less control over who uses your info and how.
