EU takes on Amazon and Microsoft over cloud dominance

Technology

The European Commission is officially investigating Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud to see if they're too dominant in Europe's cloud market.
The probes will decide if these tech giants should be labeled as "gatekeepers" under the Digital Markets Act, which could mean stricter rules for how they operate.

Why should you care?

US cloud providers, led by AWS and Azure, control about two-thirds of Europe's cloud services, making it tough for smaller players to compete.
If the EU finds them blocking fair competition, both companies could face big fines—up to 10% of their global revenue—and new obligations to play fair.
This is a major step in keeping digital markets open and giving everyone a better shot at innovation and choice online.
