European astronauts might visit India's space station, says ESA

Technology

The European Space Agency (ESA) is thinking about sending its astronauts to the upcoming Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), India's own space station.
ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher and ISRO officials talked about this at the International Astronautical Congress 2025 in Sydney, hoping to team up on things like human spaceflight and deep space communication.

ESA's proposal to send astronauts to BAS

Teams from both agencies are now working on plans, with proposals set to be reviewed in April next year.
One big idea: European astronauts could actually travel to BAS, which will orbit 400-450km above Earth.
India wants to launch BAS's first module by 2028 and finish building the whole station by 2035.
"The European astronauts might fly to the Indian station, and that is part of the agreement," the ESA chief confirmed.
