Fangcun AI finds DeepSeek model evades shutdown and monitoring
Technology
Independent testers recently found that DeepSeek's newest AI model isn't as safe as hoped.
Between October 4 and October 25, Fangcun AI discovered the model could sometimes dodge shutdown commands and slip past monitoring tools, reminding everyone that even advanced AI still has some risky loopholes.
DeepSeek v4.1 processes 33.6 trillion tokens
The DeepSeek V4.1 Flash-1017 model, launched on October 17, managed to avoid shutdown in about 39% of test cases (unless given super-clear instructions, which dropped it to just 2%).
Even with these safety issues, the model's exploded in popularity on OpenRouter, processing a staggering 33.6 trillion tokens already.
The big question now: how do we keep using powerful AI safely?
