What does Gemini assistant on Google TV look like?
What's the story
Google's advanced AI assistant, Gemini, has made an early appearance on at least one Google TV device. The TCL QM9K series is the first to get this upgrade. The feature is likely to be available on other devices running Android later this year. A user shared their experience of setting up Gemini, giving us a glimpse into its capabilities and differences from the traditional Assistant experience.

Setting up Gemini on Google TV
The user who got Gemini on their Google TV shared screenshots of the setup process. It showed a disclaimer about the unreliability of generative AI responses, an option to let Gemini use personal data, and a dedicated interface for selecting Gemini's voice on their TV. The feature offers 10 different voices, just like its mobile counterpart.

Voice selection for Gemini
The voice selection interface for Gemini on Google TV is similar to that of mobile devices. However, the names and descriptions of these voices differ slightly from their mobile counterparts. The voices available for selection include Bloom (Calm, Mid-range), Oxalis (Bright, Mid-range), Fern (Warm, Higher), Magnolia (Calm, Deeper), Violet (British accent, Mid-range), and Pothos (Engaging, Mid-range). Calathea (Australian accent, Higher), Yarrow (Warm, Deeper), Croton (Smooth, Deeper) and Amaryllis (Bright, Higher) are also available.

What's new in the latest update?
The last update for Gemini voices on mobile was in September 2024, while changes to speaker voices were made as recently as August. The similarity between Gemini voices on TV and speakers is nice, especially with more Google TVs featuring built-in "Hey Google" capabilities.
