Gemini can now spot AI-made images for you

Technology

Google's Gemini app just rolled out a tool that tells you if an image was created or tweaked by Google AI.
Just upload your pic and ask, "Is this AI-generated?"—Gemini checks using SynthID, Google's invisible watermark tech.
Right now, it works for images made by Google's own tools, but there are plans to expand verification to content from other AI platforms like OpenAI's Sora through future support for C2PA.

What else is coming?

Soon, images from Google's new Nano Banana Pro model will include C2PA metadata for even better tracking.
Gemini plans to expand this feature to videos and audio next.
Down the line, Google plans to bring this verification to Search, and industry experts hope social media platforms will adopt similar standards, making it way easier to spot AI-generated stuff automatically—no more detective work needed!
This follows moves by apps like TikTok adopting similar standards.
