Google doodle celebrates Pi Day 2026: How to play
On March 14, 2026, Google dropped a playful interactive Doodle to celebrate Pi Day, the annual nod to the mysterious number p (pi).
This year's design gives a shoutout to Archimedes's ancient method for estimating pi using polygons way back in 250 B.C.
The Doodle is interactive and allows users to engage with it to explore elements illustrating pi.
What is Pi Day?
Pi Day isn't just for math geeks. It's a global celebration every March 14 (3/14), inspired by pi's digits.
The first big bash happened at San Francisco's Exploratorium in 1988 thanks to physicist Larry Shaw.
Since then, it's grown into National Pi Day in the US (official since 2009) and is marked by pie-eating contests, quirky challenges, and all sorts of math-inspired fun.
Guinness World Record for most digits of pi memorized
People take Pi Day seriously, sometimes in hilarious ways.
In 2015, Rajveer Meena from India set a Guinness World Record by memorizing an eye-popping 70,000 digits of pi at VIT University, Vellore (on 21 March 2015).
Whether you're solving puzzles or just eating pie with friends, there's something for everyone on Pi Day.
