Google rolls out AI-powered 'Flight Deals' tool globally
What's the story
Google has announced the global expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) powered "Flight Deals" tool. The tech giant first introduced this innovative feature in August for users in the US, Canada, and India. Now, it is making this AI-driven search tool available worldwide through Google Flights to help users find affordable travel destinations quickly.
Global reach
AI tool now available in over 200 countries
The "Flight Deals" tool is now available in over 200 countries and territories, including the UK, France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. The feature also supports more than 60 languages. To use this service, users simply have to mention their travel preferences such as destination and travel dates. The AI will then find the best deals for them.
Enhanced features
New AI mode features for travel planning
Google is also introducing new features in its AI Mode to help users plan their trips. The built-in Canvas tool can now be used for creating travel plans. Users just have to specify the type of trip they're looking for and select the "Create with Canvas" option. This will give them a plan in the Canvas side panel that combines real-time search data for flights and hotels, Google Maps details like photos and reviews, and relevant information from various websites.
Booking assistance
AI mode's agentic capabilities now available to all
Google is also expanding the agentic capabilities of its AI Mode. Earlier this year, these were only available to users opted into Labs. Now, all US users can use this feature for booking restaurant reservations, event tickets, and beauty/wellness appointments. You can request dinner reservations based on various criteria like party size, date/time, location, and cuisine type.
Booking expansion
Future plans for AI mode
In the future, Google plans to enable users to complete bookings for flights and hotels directly in AI Mode. This would let you describe your requirements and compare different options based on schedules, prices, room photos/amenities/reviews. The move is part of Google's ongoing efforts to leverage AI technology for improving user experience across its platforms.
