Huawei launches flagship Mate 30 smartphones without Google apps

Huawei has launched the flagship Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 smartphones at an event in Munich, Germany. Both the handsets offer notched design, circular camera module, 40W fast-charging support, and flagship grade internals. However, given the US imposed trade ban, these phones do not support Google services including Play Store as well as Google apps like Chrome, Gmail, Assistant, and YouTube. Here's more.

Design
First, let's take a look at both the phones

Both Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 sport an all-glass body featuring a similar notched design. However, the Pro model gets a slightly bigger notch which accommodates 3D Face Unlock sensor. The Mate 30 Pro comes with aggressively curved edges and misses out on physical buttons. However, it gets Intuitive Side-Touch Interaction feature wherein the physical buttons are replaced by invisible virtual keys.

Display
What about displays?

The Mate 30 Pro comes with a 6.53-inch Flex OLED Horizon display with a full-HD+ (1176x2400 pixels) resolution and 18.4:9 aspect ratio. On the other hand, the Mate 30 sports a bigger 6.62-inch Rigid OLED FullView display with full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Furthermore, both the handsets house an under-display fingerprint sensor for secure unlocking.

Camera
For the shutterbugs

The Mate 30 Pro houses quad rear cameras including a 40MP (f/1.6) primary sensor, 40MP (f/1.8) ultra-wide-angle sensor, 8MP (f/2.4) telephoto lens, and a 3D depth sensor. The Mate 30, on the other hand, comes with triple rear cameras including a 40MP (f/1.8) main camera, 16MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle sensor, and an 8MP (f/2.4) telephoto lens.

Information
For the selfie lovers

On the front, the Pro model comes with a 32MP (f/2.0) shooter, while the standard Mate 30 gets a 24MP (f/2.0) snapper. The front cameras on both phones support HDR and are capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps.

Internals
Here's a look at the internals

Both Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 draw power from top-of-the-line Kirin 990 chipset. Both handsets offer 8GB RAM but the Pro model comes with 256GB of internal storage, while the standard Mate 30 gets 128GB storage. The Pro model packs 4,500mAh battery and the standard Mate 30 is backed by a 4,200mAh battery. Moreover, both phones support 40W wired and 27W wireless fast-charging.

Operating system
Operating system and connectivity options

Both the Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 run Android 10-based EMUI 10, according to Huawei's China website. However, due to recently imposed US sanctions, this OS misses out on Google Play Store and Google apps such as Chrome, YouTube, and Gmail. Furthermore, both phones offer latest connectivity options including dual-SIMs (Nano), dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Type-C port, and headphone jack (only on Mate 30).

Pricing
Finally, what about pricing?

The Mate 30 costs EUR 799 (approximately Rs. 63,000) for solo 8GB/128GB variant. The Mate 30 Pro in solo 8GB/256GB configuration costs EUR 1,099 (approximately Rs. 86,700) for the 4G model and EUR 1,199 (approximately Rs. 94,600) for the 5G variant. There is also a Mate 30 RS Porsche Design model which is available in 12GB/512GB configuration and costs EUR 2,095 (approximately Rs. 1,65,300).
