Mark your calendar: Epic total solar eclipse coming August 2, 2027
A rare total solar eclipse is set for August 2, 2027, lighting up skies across southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
The path of totality sweeps through Spain, Morocco, Gibraltar, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, the northeastern tip of Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia—hitting cities like Cadiz, Tangier, Luxor, Jeddah, and Sana'a.
When and where to catch it
The longest period of darkness—6 minutes and 22 seconds—will happen near Luxor in Egypt.
The show starts with a partial eclipse at 7:30 UTC; full totality kicks in at 8:23 UTC; everything wraps up by 12:43 UTC.
Even if you're not right on the path, a partial eclipse will be visible from much of Europe to South Asia (and even parts of eastern North America).
Watch safely!
Don't forget: regular sunglasses won't cut it. Always use certified eclipse glasses or proper solar filters to protect your eyes during every phase.
