Meet Math V2: The open-source AI that just won gold at the IMO
DeepSeek, an AI startup from Hangzhou, has introduced Math V2—the first open-source AI model capable of scoring at gold medal level in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
You can access it for free on Hugging Face and GitHub, and even tweak or use it however you like.
Since 1959, the IMO has been a tough test for humans and, more recently, for AI systems, known for its seriously challenging math problems.
Making advanced math (and AI) accessible to everyone
Unlike closed models from tech giants like Google DeepMind or OpenAI, Math V2 is designed to open up top-level math problem-solving to all.
As Hugging Face CEO Clement Delangue puts it, this model brings "the brain of one of the best mathematicians in the world" within everyone's reach.
Math V2 stands out by checking its own answers and tackling problems with no set solutions—a step toward smarter, more reliable AI.
It also showed off its skills at the 2024 Chinese Mathematical Olympiad, hinting at even bigger things ahead.
