Meta rolls out new safety features for senior users

Technology

Meta just launched fresh safety features to help older users avoid online scams across WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram.
This move is part of their 2025 "Scams Se Bacho" campaign with India's Department of Telecommunications, aiming to boost digital safety for seniors.

New features on WhatsApp, Messenger

WhatsApp now warns users if they try to share their screen with strangers during video calls, helping prevent data theft.
Messenger uses AI to spot sketchy messages from unknown contacts, offering quick options to block or report.
Plus, all three apps now support passkey logins—so seniors can use biometrics or a PIN instead of just passwords.

Campaign includes multilingual videos, digital literacy workshops

Meta's campaign also includes multilingual videos and digital literacy workshops in major Indian cities, making it easier for seniors to spot and report scams.
These sessions are part of the Saksham Senior initiative, focused on helping older folks feel more confident and safe online.
