Microsoft and Google issue major patches, Anthropic blocks AI misuse
This week was pretty intense for cybersecurity.
Microsoft and Google each released major security updates this week: Microsoft patched 974 vulnerabilities in its September 2026 Security update, including 723 in Windows, including two Windows vulnerabilities that had been exploited by malicious hackers.
Google rolled out updates for Chrome to tackle 230 bugs, one of which hackers were already exploiting.
If you use Chrome, updates are coming soon, but a few delays might leave some users exposed for now.
Anthropic blocked AI misuse attempts
Anthropic revealed that people tried to misuse its AI models for cyberattacks and even creating biological weapons, like designing toxins or drafting dangerous research proposals.
Thankfully, Anthropic blocked these attempts and has made its newer models safer.
The company stressed how crucial it is to keep advanced AI from being used in harmful ways.
