Microsoft and NVIDIA unveil Surface Laptop Ultra with RTX Spark

Technology Oct 07, 2026

Microsoft and NVIDIA are teaming up to launch the Surface Laptop Ultra Wednesday in San Francisco.

This new laptop runs on NVIDIA's RTX Spark chips, letting AI tasks happen right on your device instead of relying on the cloud.

It's a big step for bringing more powerful AI features straight to Windows PCs.

Rising hardware costs complicate local AI

By handling AI locally, this laptop could challenge Intel and AMD's usual dominance and reduce dependence on Microsoft's own Azure cloud.

But there's a catch: hardware prices are climbing fast. NVIDIA's DGX Spark desktop, for example, is now 75% pricier than before.
