NASA tracks airplane-sized asteroid approaching Earth
A 120-foot-wide asteroid called 2025 MV89 will make a close pass by Earth on July 4 at 9:09pm IST, zipping along at over 31,000km/h.
It's about the size of a small passenger plane, but NASA says there's zero risk of it hitting us—so you can relax.
TL;DR
No, it won't hit us
The asteroid will be about 1.96 million kilometers away—that's five times farther than the Moon.
For context, only bigger asteroids that come much closer are considered risky.
Since this one doesn't meet those criteria, there's nothing to worry about.
NASA's tracking near-Earth objects
2025 MV89 is part of a group of asteroids that cross Earth's path and are always watched closely.
NASA uses global observatories to track their orbits and update any changes quickly, making sure we stay safe from potential threats in space.
