Neuralink's Blindsight enables monkey to visualize nonexistent objects

Technology

Neuralink, Elon Musk's brain-tech company, is developing Blindsight—a device designed to help blind people see again. In animal trials, it made monkeys perceive objects that weren't really there. The device just got a special FDA status and could be implanted in its first human by the end of 2025.

Blindsight stimulates brain to restore vision

Blindsight uses tiny electrodes to stimulate the part of the brain that processes vision, so users can sense images even if their eyes don't work. The first human trial, called UAE-PRIME, will happen at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Atari-style graphics for now, upgrades planned

Neuralink hopes future versions will go further than normal vision—maybe even letting people see things like infrared light. For now, expect basic "Atari-style" graphics, but upgrades are already on the roadmap.
