Over 2,000 fake online stores are tricking shoppers
Cybersecurity firm CloudSEK just found over 2,000 fake online stores pretending to be brands like Amazon, Apple, Samsung, and Ray-Ban.
These scam sites look convincing—with countdown timers and trust badges—but they're set up to steal your personal and payment info.
How the scams work
CloudSEK spotted two big clusters: one with over 750 interconnected sites, featuring more than 170 Amazon-themed lookalikes like atoztreasure.com, and another with over 1,000 .shop sites copying global brands (with the potential total much higher).
Scammers use mass-produced phishing kits so they can launch these sites quickly.
Each site attracts hundreds of visitors in a short time and tricks about 3%-8% of them.
Why it matters for you
These fake stores can make $2,000-$12,000 each before getting shut down—which could add up to significant sums overall.
They spread links through social media ads, search results, and even WhatsApp.
Experts say your best bet is to stick to official brand websites or trusted marketplaces if you want to avoid getting scammed or having your data misused later on.
