Texas judge says TikTok misled about 'Restricted mode' safety
Technology
TikTok just got called out by a Texas judge for not being honest about how safe its platform is for kids.
The state sued TikTok last year, saying the app promised a safe space but didn't deliver, especially with its "Restricted Mode," which failed to block inappropriate content and let some rule-breaking posts slip through.
Texas trial expected next month
The case will proceed to trial, and the trial is expected to be scheduled next month to figure out penalties and what TikTok needs to fix.
TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours.
This comes right after the company settled lawsuits in August over mental health concerns for young users, and Meta agreed to pay up to $18 billion for addiction-related claims.
