WhatsApp unveils more ad features in messaging app
WhatsApp is adding paid channel subscriptions, promoted channels, and ads in Status for the first time.
These features are designed to keep your data private by only using basics like country and language for targeting.
It's all part of Meta's push to finally make money from WhatsApp's huge user base.
WhatsApp is getting more like Instagram
Ads will show up in the Updates tab, where most people check Channels and Status daily.
Businesses can now promote their channels or offer exclusive content for a fee—WhatsApp plans to eventually take a 10% cut from these subscriptions.
The move helps Meta earn beyond Facebook and Instagram.
Some users are not happy with the changes
Bringing ads to WhatsApp makes it more like other Meta apps, which could be a big shift for people who just want simple messaging.
Social media expert Matt Navarra points out there could be backlash if users feel things are getting too commercialized.
