X launches AI note writer API for Community Notes
X (yep, the app formerly known as Twitter) just launched the AI Note Writer API. Now, developers worldwide can build AI bots to help write Community Notes—the little context blurbs you see on posts.
The idea? Speed up fact-checking by mixing AI-generated notes with human review, so helpful info shows up faster when people need it.
Developers can start building AI bots
The API opened for global signups today. Developers can test their AI in "test mode," but only approved bots get to suggest notes on flagged posts—and even then, humans have the final say before anything goes live.
Every AI-made note is clearly labeled and scored using X's open algorithm to keep things fair and transparent.
Community Notes will be more accurate and less biased
X hopes teaming up humans and AIs will make Community Notes more accurate and less biased over time.
The pilot will expand slowly so more developers can join in, but people stay in charge of what actually gets published.
As X puts it: this is all about "openness, fairness, quality, and transparency."
