#IndiaInAustralia: Three key moments of Day two of third Test
The Indian cricket team continued with the momentum on the second day of the third Test match against Australia being held at the MCG. India resumed at 215/2 and went on to post a first innings score of 443/7 (declared). Cheteshwar Pujara struck a sublime ton. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hit impressive fifties. Here are the key things that defined today's play.
Boxing Day Test: India manage to crawl ahead
Kohli and Pujara added 78 runs today, before they fell in quick succession. Kohli managed to score 82 and Pujara got to a decent 106. Post their dismissal, India rallied on through Rohit. Mitchell Starc picked two key wickets. Australia were 8/0 at stumps.
Pujara, Kohli battle it out in the middle
The 170-run stand between the two senior cricketers in this Test was of major significance. Both played patiently and it wasn't an easy ride. Kohli's strike-rate of 40.20 showed his character. The nature of the pitch tested them severely, but the pair did the job. Pujara looked solid today and was done by a ball that kept low. Kohli played the short ball well.
Rohit, Pant make most of dropped catches
Rohit cashed in on the catch missed by substitute fielder Peter Siddle. The classy batsman's unbeaten knock of 63 helped India to get past the 400-run mark. Rohit freed his arms with time and his glorious drives kept flowing. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant was also dropped early on. He went on to amass 39 and added a 76-run stand with Rohit.
Aussie bowlers toil hard
Australian bowlers toiled hard and made life difficult for India. They continued from where they left off on Day one. The bowling quartet needed to be patient and they were rewarded with wickets. The main attribute of their show was not to allow Kohli and Pujara to bat long and amass big hundreds. Pat Cummins was their best bowler today. He picked Pujara's wicket.
