Broadcasters request BCCI to reduce fee of non-India matches

With the e-auction of the cricket television rights just days away, Star TV network and Sony have raised objections. According to reports, the issue is regarding the per-match fee of non-India matches. Both Star and Sony aren't keen on paying the same per-match fee for non-Indian games compared to ties featuring the 'men in blue'. The e-auction is scheduled to happen on April 3.

Broadcasters in a fix, BCCI brushes them off

The report adds that a BCCI official, who is supervising the high-profile e-auction, has said that the board will not entertain any objection from the broadcasters at this advanced stage. Meanwhile, in their letter both Star and Sony have stated that in business terms the current deal isn't viable for them. It remains to be seen if the BCCI changes its stance.

    Broadcasters lay out the issues

Both the broadcasters have claimed that the Indian public do not value non-India and India matches equally. Star even laid out the viewership numbers of 2016 Asia Cup, which showed India's match against UAE had more viewership than a Pakistan versus Sri Lanka tie.

All you need to know about the e-auction

The e-auction will be held on April 3. The BCCI will sell various rights for the next five-year (2018-2023) cycle. These include lucrative global broadcast and digital rights. Several top players, including Facebook and Google, are in the race to acquire the digital rights.
