Badminton: PV Sindhu sets sights on number one ranking

Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu has set her sights on reaching the world number one ranking. Sindhu is currently ranked number three in the world. The Hyderabad badminton star survived a scare to beat Thailand's Jindapol 21-15, 13-21, 21-17. With this win, she has qualified for the last 16 stage of the Hong Kong Open. Here is more on Sindhu.

One day I will be world number one, says Sindhu

Sindhu has been dominating the badminton circuit for quite sometime, but one thing she is eyeing next is the top ranking. According to the AFP, Sindhu said, "It's not going to be easy because there are some players who are coming up. But definitely one day I will be world number one, that's what I feel."

A lot of expectation from me: Sindhu

"A lot of them have been taking me for inspiration, and there are also a lot of expectations now after this year especially. So to meet their expectations I need to be there and and I need to keep working hard," Sindhu said.

Tai Tzu Ying has dominated the women's badminton rankings

Getting to the summit will not be easy for the Indian player. Taiwan's 24-year-old sensation Tai Tzu Ying, has dominated the rankings over the past two seasons. Sindhu has lost five straight finals including, the one in the Asian Games, against Tai. Her last victory against Tai was in the 2016 Rio Olympics, en route to the finale.

Sindhu hasn't won anything in 2018

Sindhu hasn't won a major title this year. She has been involved in five finals, but unfortunately lost all of them. Her recent finale loss in 2018 Asian Games. Post the Games, her form has seen a dip with her making only two quarter-final appearances.
